What is Rwandan Mutuelle de Santé?
Mutuelle de santé is a Rwandan community-based health insurance. Mutuelle de santé allows insured individuals to access health care through all public and private non-profit health centers in Rwanda. To be insured under mutuelle de santé, an individual has to contribute the mutuelle annual premium based on household income.

Why Health Care?
Poor health can undermine people’s potential to improve their lives. Poverty is both a cause and a consequence of poor health. Poverty increases the chances of poor health. Poor health, in turn, traps communities in poverty. As our goal in United for Assistance, we provide services that connect people with opportunities to enhance their quality of life including assisting individuals and needy families by paying their yearly premium to reduce their risk of falling ill and receive treatment when they do get sick.
How does it work?
Mutuelle subscribers are assigned to one of three categories:
Category I pays Rwf 2,000 per person. This category is supported by the Government of Rwanda and other donors;
Category II pays Rwf 3,000 per person;
Category III pays Rwf 7,000 per person.
All three categories are entitled to the same services and The community- based health insurance scheme year starts on 1st July and end on 30th June of the following year.
United for Assistance helps individuals and families who are in category II to buy their mutuelle de santé premiums.
